CAREERS · CURRENT OPENINGS

Current openings

1,776 posts across 20 advertised roles, in the eight boards and the Ministry directorates. Every one of them states the grade, the station and the closing date, and applying costs nothing at any stage.

How to read this list

The board or directorate named in the second column is the employer. It advertises the post, screens the applications, sets the subject paper, runs the teaching demonstration and the interview, and issues the letter of appointment. Apply to that board for a teaching post; posts on the Ministry establishment are processed through the Kano State Civil Service Commission and are marked with the directorate rather than a board.

The station is where you will be posted, not where the interview is held. Written tests and demonstrations are held at the six zonal centres — Kano Central, Kano North, Kano South, Gaya, Rano and Wudil — and you will be told which centre when you are invited. A station named as a zone or as "all 44 LGAs" means you will be posted where the shortage is, and you will be told the school in your letter of appointment.

Closing dates are firm. The applicant portal closes at midnight on the date shown and no late application is accepted, because the screening list is drawn the following morning. An application that is incomplete on the closing date is treated as not made, so upload your documents when you start rather than when you finish.

A post that has closed is removed from this table, and a post that was filled is reported with the merit list. If somebody tells you about a vacancy that is not on this page, it has not been advertised, and a post that has not been advertised cannot lawfully be filled.

How to apply

The whole process is online until the interview. Do not send a paper application and do not bring one to any office — it will not be entered.

1

Check the requirement for the grade

Read the row for the grade in the table above and the subject named in the advertisement. An application that does not meet the published minimum is screened out at the first stage, and there is no discretion at that step.

2

Create an applicant account

One account, one applicant, using your own email address and telephone number. You may apply for more than one post from the same account, but you may not hold two accounts, and a duplicate account voids both applications.

3

Complete the form and upload your documents

Everything in the document list below, scanned legibly. A document that cannot be read is treated as not supplied. Upload as you go — the portal saves each section.

4

Submit before the closing date and keep the reference

An acknowledgement reference is issued immediately in the form MOE/REC/2026/NNNNNN. Quote it in every enquiry. No application is progressed without one, and the portal closes at midnight on the closing date.

5

Sit the written examination

Invitations go out by SMS and email at least ten days before the date, naming your zonal centre. Bring the invitation and a valid means of identification. The general paper and the subject paper are marked anonymously.

6

Give the teaching demonstration

For every classroom post. You are given the topic and the class the day before and teach a forty-minute lesson observed by two assessors against a published rubric. Prepare a lesson plan and bring it.

7

Attend the panel interview with your originals

Three members, one from outside the recruiting board. Bring the original of every document you uploaded — an original that cannot be produced ends the application at this stage.

8

Verification, merit list and posting

Certificates are verified with the awarding institution and your TRCN status confirmed with the Council. The merit list is published, successful candidates receive a letter naming the school and the reporting date, and induction follows before you take a class.

Documents to have ready

Scan each one before you start. Every document must be legible, complete and in your own name — a name that differs between documents must be explained by a sworn affidavit or a marriage certificate.

  • NCE, degree or HND certificate, and the academic transcript for it.
  • PGDE certificate, where you hold a degree in a subject discipline rather than in education.
  • SSCE, WASSCE or NECO result, showing credits in English Language and Mathematics.
  • TRCN registration certificate, or the evidence of application, for every classroom post.
  • NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate, where the grade requires it.
  • Birth certificate or a sworn declaration of age.
  • Certificate of State of origin, or of residence for a non-indigene applying to a State post.
  • National Identification Number slip, and a valid means of identification.
  • Two recent passport photographs on a plain background.
  • Curriculum vitae listing every school or institution served, with dates.
  • Two referees, one of whom must be your current or most recent employer or head teacher.
  • Evidence of current employment and a letter of no objection, if you are already in the public service.

Questions from applicants

I have a degree in Physics but no PGDE. May I apply for a teaching post?
Yes, and it is worth applying now. TRCN will not register a subject graduate to teach without the PGDE, so an offer would be conditional on you enrolling for it. The PGDE takes one year and can be taken by sandwich while you teach. Upload your degree and state on the form that you have applied for or intend to take the PGDE.
I hold an NCE and have taught in a private school for six years. Which grade do I apply at?
GL 07, which is the NCE entry grade, and your service is recognised in the appraisal and promotion record rather than in the entry grade. Once appointed you may enter the funded upgrading programme to convert the NCE to a degree, after which conversion to GL 08 follows the qualification.
Can I choose where I am posted?
You may state a preference and it is taken into account, but posting follows the shortage. A post advertised for a zone or for all 44 LGAs will be filled where the children are, and refusing a posting withdraws the offer. If you are willing to go to a designated rural school, say so on the form — it carries the 20 per cent rural allowance and it will strengthen your application.
Is there an age limit?
You must be at least 18 and must be able to complete the qualifying service for pension before the compulsory retirement age, which for teaching staff in Kano is 65 years of age or 40 years of service, whichever comes first. In practice that means a first appointment is not made after 50.
Does the Ministry recruit non-indigenes of Kano State?
Yes. Appointment is on qualification and merit. A non-indigene supplies a certificate of residence in place of the certificate of State of origin, and the same terms, salary structure and promotion route apply.
I applied last session and was not successful. May I apply again?
Yes, as often as a suitable post is advertised. Each round is screened afresh and a previous unsuccessful application counts neither for nor against you. If you were unsuccessful at the demonstration stage, ask for your rubric score — it is released to the candidate on request and tells you exactly what to improve.
Somebody is offering me a place on the merit list for money. What do I do?
Report it, and pay nothing. The merit list is compiled from anonymously marked papers and recorded interviews and is published. Nobody can add a name to it. Telephone 0800 MOE KANO or write to info@moe.kn.gov.ng with the name, the date and any message you received.
How long does the whole process take?
From the closing date, about twelve to sixteen weeks: screening in two weeks, the written examination in weeks four to six, demonstrations and interviews in weeks seven to ten, verification in weeks eleven and twelve, and letters of appointment thereafter. Teaching posts are timed so that successful candidates report at the start of a term.

Applying is free — at every stage

There is no application fee, no screening fee, no examination fee, no demonstration fee and no interview fee for any post on this page. The Ministry and its boards have no recruitment agent and authorise nobody to collect anything from an applicant.

Anyone who claims to be able to secure you an appointment, a posting or a place on the merit list is defrauding you, whatever office they claim to hold. Report it on 0800 MOE KANO or at info@moe.kn.gov.ng with the name, the date and any message, and keep the message.
